January 13, 2017

“How to Play Indian Sitar Raags on a Piano” is a new 258-page book designed for intrepid pianists trained in either western classical or jazz traditions. It aims to make accessible the fascinating and rich world of Indian classical music, and gives step by step instructions for improvising within the style and typical structure of raags.  British composer John Pitts has sympathetically reinvented this extraordinary art form for piano, with extensive sheet music for 24 raags, along with hundreds of musical examples. There is a large preview available to download free from http://britishmusiccollection.org.uk/sites/default/files/selection%20from%20HowToPlayIndianSitarRaagsOnAPiano%20John%20Pitts%2026nov2016a%20small%20low%20quality.pdf and there are also some video examples on his website www.pianoraag.com
